The objectives of this course are to:

  •  Understand the online learning course delivery process
  • Familiarize instructors with Blackboard Learning Management System to teach online courses at Texas Southern University
  • Familiarize instructors with available resources, tools, assessment building, and tech support
  • Familiarize instructors with specific online Policies and Procedures

 

The course is designed to provide the convenience of becoming proficient in online learning in a delivery most comfortable with your learning preference, which will include:

  • Participation in face-to-face group workshop sessions (three 2-hour meeting sessions)
  • Participation in one-on-one personal training (three 1 ½ hour sessions)
  • Participation in virtual meetings through Blackboard Collaborate (three 1 ½ hour meeting sessions)

 

There are four (4) modules to complete in this course:

  • Module 1 – Best Online Faculty Teaching Practices
  • Module 2 – Technology – Using Blackboard Learn, six (6) sections
  • Module 3 – Policies and Procedures
  • Module 4 – Course Self-Assessment

You will receive the Online Instructor Certification once Module 4 has been successfully completed.

Instructional designers support faculty and staff in their use of technology as it relates to teaching and learning. This may include:

  • Working with faculty to identify student learning needs
  • Developing course goals and objectives to ensure a clear path to accomplish learning needs
  • Assisting faculty in the structure of course materials and activities for hybrid and online class delivery
  • Assisting in adapting instructional materials from traditional or hybrid, to online courses
  • Supporting the use of our Course Management System (Blackboard)
  • Utilizing various types of media to support learning
  • Assisting in the development of assessments and evaluations for a course or instructor
